The Human Impact of Pulmonary Hypertension (PH)

Raising awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension

Participating in the 2024 W4PH Walk for Pulmonary Hypertension was an experience that stayed with me long after the day ended. I joined initially out of curiosity and a sense of responsibility as a healthcare student-leader, but what I encountered was far more profound than I expected.

Walking alongside others, I was reminded that pulmonary hypertension is not just a medical condition—it represents real people, real struggles, and often, silent battles that many don’t see or understand. There was something powerful about being part of a community that chose to stand up, show up, and walk in solidarity for those affected.

That day made the importance of awareness feel very real to me. It’s easy for conditions like PH to go unnoticed, yet early recognition and support can change lives. Being part of that movement, even in a small way, felt like lending a voice to those who are often unheard. Till today, I still wear the shirt and answer questions like “What is PH?”. I experience a delight in being able to illuminate one person with adequate knowledge of what persons with PH face, so that they could tell others.

For me, the walk was not just about raising awareness—it was about empathy, connection, and a renewed commitment to advocate for patients beyond the clinic walls. It’s an experience I carry with me, and one that continues to shape how I see my role in healthcare.
